Participation
Individuals and families who would like to participate in Northwest Housing Development's mutual self-help housing program must meet eligibility requirements, qualify for a construction loan and mortgage, and complete all of their assigned tasks during the construction of each home in their development.
The following minimums are required of each participating household:
- Complete, accurate and timely information;
- A history of good credit rating with minimal exception;
- Income less than 80 percent of the county median and sufficient to pay a reduced monthly mortgage;
- Unable to qualify for a conventional mortgage; and
- A commitment to contribute 35 hours of work each week for 10 to 12 months.

Application Review
Completed applications are reviewed for preliminary eligibility based on the information supplied. Applicants are not placed on the waiting list until their application is complete and approved. Placement on a waiting list does not guarantee eligibility for a loan. The lender makes the final eligibility decision.
Program Participant Selection
Program participants are contacted as building lots become available in their preferred areas, and according the date their completed application is received. Although the waiting list can be long, every eligible applicant will eventually be contacted. It is, therefore, crucial that you inform us of any changes necessary keep your contact information up to date. Applicants that cannot be reached within a reasonable period will be removed from our waiting list.
